In the heart of “14er country,” hikers have dozens of trails to explore, including the nearby Continental Divide and Alpine Tunnel Trails. Chaffee County has more 14ers than any other county in Colorado.
Day trips to the historic towns of Buena Vista, Leadville, Tin Cup, Twin Lakes, Salida, Aspen, and places in-between offer a wide variety of activities from hiking to rafting, exploring, and shopping.
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy soaking in mineral hot springs year-round and whitewater rafting, fly-fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and four-wheeling in the summer and fall.
For winter visitors to town, outdoor activities include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, or simply enjoying the charming old-town atmosphere. Monarch Mountain and Ski Cooper are local favorites for skiing.
We live at the Crossroads of the Rocky Mountains where the Sangre de Cristo, Mosquito, and Sawatch Ranges present a spectacular 360-degree regal landscape. Nowhere else in the United States are as many high mountain peaks in one location. Year-round, it’s simply breathtaking.
